Hair Extension Home Care Guide | Will Wyatt Concept
WILL WYATT CONCEPT · EXTENSION AFTERCARE
Beautiful hair.
A little care, every day.
Your guide to keeping extensions soft, manageable and looking their best between salon visits.
Five simple steps for your next wash day. Follow along below, and use the products your stylist recommends for your hair.
ROUTINE 01
Before you wash
Brush first. Pre-condition. Nourish your lengths.
- Detangle dry hair daily—and before every wash. Use a boar-bristle brush, supporting each section and starting at the ends. This helps prevent tangling in the shower.
- Pre-condition before shampoo. Apply your chosen extension-suitable pre-conditioning treatment to mids and ends, following its label. This helps keep the lengths soft and reduces dryness.
- Add a little hair oil. Smooth a small amount through mids and ends before washing, and reapply sparingly during the day when the lengths feel dry.
Remember: Keep oils and conditioning treatments away from beads, bonds and tape. Stop and contact WWC if you find matting or slipping.
ROUTINE 02
Cleanse first. Then treat.
A clean scalp and clean lengths help your care routine work as intended.

- Clarify first. Start with WWC’s recommended Shibui Clarifying Shampoo. In a clean bottle, mix about four finger-widths of water with your usual shampoo amount. Massage gently along the scalp and between rows, then rinse thoroughly.
- Follow with your recommended shampoo. Use your stylist-selected Oribe or Kérastase shampoo, diluted fresh in the same way. Clean gently along each weft with fingertip pads; keep lengths pointing down. Rinse thoroughly. WWC recommends 2–3 shampoo passes in total.
- Condition and gently detangle. Part hair in the middle and bring both sides forward. Massage conditioner into wet mid-lengths and ends, avoiding direct application to the scalp and attachments. Support each section and use a Framar wet-detangling brush or VBE wet brush (returning soon), clearing the ends before moving higher. Leave for 2–3 minutes, or follow the label.
- Rinse every row thoroughly. Use a handheld showerhead when available. Gently lift the hair so plenty of water reaches between rows and along each weft. Allow 5–10 minutes for WWC’s thorough rinse and continue as needed until no residue remains.
Remember: Lots of water, every row, no residue. Discard leftover diluted shampoo. Follow your stylist’s guidance for your extensions and each product’s label.
Choose your shampoo & conditioning regimen
After clarifying, follow the Oribe or Kérastase routine your WWC stylist recommends. Explore each range below for its shampoos, conditioners, masks and treatments. Choose products for your hair rather than layering the entire range in one wash.

ROUTINE 03
Apply your leave-in
Gently towel-dry, then layer your stylist’s chosen prep.
- First layer: Oribe Hair Alchemy Bond Building Elixir. On clean, towel-dried hair, WWC recommends two pumps per side, distributed evenly through the lengths. Keep product off attachments and adjust the amount with your stylist for your hair’s density. Leave in, then follow with heat protection.
- Prep with Ponto 9 Miracle Heat Protection. Apply to damp lengths before blow-drying, following the label. Keep product away from attachments.
- Choose for your hair. Light sprays or creams suit finer hair; richer creams suit thicker, drier lengths. Choose from the Kérastase and Oribe options pictured below, according to your stylist’s recommendation.
- Layer only as directed. These are options, not a shopping list to use all at once. Follow each product’s application directions.
Remember: Keep leave-ins away from attachments. You do not need to layer every product.

ROUTINE 04
Detangle gently
Small sections. Soft strokes. No pulling.

- Support the section. Hold the hair above the area you are brushing to reduce tension at the attachment.
- Start at the ends. On dry hair, use your boar-bristle brush. Brush downward through the ends, then begin each pass a little higher as tangles release.
- Stop at resistance. Never force bristles through knots or brush across beads, bonds or tape.
Remember: Use the boar-bristle brush on dry hair. After washing, use your approved leave-in and a wet-detangling tool recommended by your stylist.
ROUTINE 05
Dry first. Then style.
Two side sections. Gentle airflow. Finish row by row.
- Dry the top first. Blow-dry your natural hair on top as much as possible, then clip it up gently to reach the extension rows.
- Rough-dry one side at a time. Divide the lengths into two loose side sections. Dry each side to at least 70–80%, including the wefts, using controlled airflow and low-to-medium heat.
- Switch to the KOZIS Wooden Paddle Hair Brush (Large). Place the brush under the hair and the dryer above, directing air downward. Work each side until nearly fully dry without pulling on attachments.
- Style row by row. Once nearly dry, section by row and finish with a round brush and dryer or a suitable hot-air styling brush, following its instructions.
Remember: Roots, wefts and lengths must be fully dry before bed. Heated plates and dry-use hot brushes require completely dry hair. Keep heat off attachments.

BEACH & POOL DAYS
Protect your hair around water
Before you swim
- Keep extensions out of pool water. WWC recommends avoiding chlorine exposure. Saltwater pools usually generate chlorine too, so “salt pool” does not mean chlorine-free. Do not reduce a pool’s sanitization to protect your hair.
- Protect against dryness and tangles. Pool and seawater exposure can leave extensions dry or tangled and may affect their color. Check your extension brand’s care instructions.
If your hair gets wet
- Rinse promptly with fresh water. As soon as practical, shampoo thoroughly and use your stylist-approved conditioning mask on mid-lengths and ends, following its timing instructions.
- Dry every weft and row promptly. Do not leave the attachment area damp for hours. Dry roots and wefts thoroughly, then finish the lengths. Prolonged dampness can compromise extension care and comfort.
- Check for changes. Contact WWC for unusual shedding, matting or discoloration. Seek medical advice for persistent scalp itching, redness or sores.
BEFORE BED
A little overnight care
The night before wash day, nourish your lengths with one stylist-selected overnight treatment.
- Focus on mid-lengths and ends. Apply the amount directed on the label, keeping product away from attachments.
- Go to bed with dry extensions. Check the roots and every row before settling in.
- Secure a very low, loose ponytail. Use a silk-covered scrunchie, keeping the tie comfortable with no pulling at the roots. Keep lengths together so they are less likely to catch under your arms as you sleep.
- Rest on a silk pillowcase. A smooth sleeping surface helps reduce friction against the hair.

Restyling in the morning?
Heavy dry-shampoo buildup? Wash first. WWC recommends washing out a heavy coating of dry shampoo or styling residue, rinsing thoroughly, and drying the hair completely before restyling with hot tools. Do not keep layering products and heat over buildup.
Start with completely dry hair. Apply Oribe Gold Lust Dry Heat Protection Spray as directed before hot tools. Smooth a little Kérastase L’Huile Original through the lengths as your stylist recommends. Use medium heat—or the lowest effective setting—and keep tools away from attachments.
BETWEEN APPOINTMENTS
Know when to check in.
Keep maintenance appointments every 6–8 weeks, never beyond 8 weeks. Your WWC stylist may recommend an earlier visit for your method, growth or natural hair. Book your next appointment before leaving the salon.
Why should I avoid overdue maintenance?
As extensions grow out, their position and support change. Delaying maintenance can allow tangling, matting, slipping and extra tension on the supporting natural hair. Continued pulling can cause breakage, thinning or traction-related hair loss, which can become permanent. These are risks, not inevitable outcomes.
Check in during your first few weeks
We encourage a salon check-in during the first few weeks after installation so we can assess the attachments, your comfort and the visible condition of your hair and scalp. Contact us promptly for pain, persistent pulling, unusual shedding or irritation rather than waiting for scheduled maintenance. Persistent redness, sores or hair loss should also be assessed by a dermatologist.
What if extensions are not the right fit?
We will explain any concerns we find and discuss your options openly. Depending on your hair and scalp condition, we may recommend professional removal and a different method, or removing extensions without replacing them if extensions are not a suitable option. You decide whether to accept our recommendation; we will make the reasons clear and prioritize the condition of your natural hair and scalp.
Can I use purple shampoo or a clarifying treatment?
Use the clarifying formula your stylist approves for your extension method and color. Check before adding purple shampoo: extension hair can take up toning pigment differently. Follow your personalized wash plan.
Should I use both heat-protection products?
Not automatically. Nectar Thermique is an option for preparing suitable hair for blow-drying; Gold Lust Dry Heat Protection Spray is an option for dry styling. Ask your stylist which step your routine needs.
What if my extensions feel dry or start tangling?
Gently detangle the ends, avoid adding heavy products at the roots, and contact your stylist if tangling persists or is close to the attachments. A salon check can identify whether your routine or maintenance timing needs to change.
